Mission
|
|
|
New
Jersey Agricultural Land Trust (NJALT)
is dedicated to the Garden State’s
farming heritage, its sustainability and
beneficial use. NJALT’s goals are to
provide farm owners with land
preservation options that combine the
landowner’s conservation ethic with
forward-looking business practices, as
needed for independent and productive
farming operations, and to better
prepare future farmers. |
|
NJALT’s mission and
organization are unique in New Jersey: |
|
● |
New Jersey’s first and
only statewide farmland conservation organization, focusing
exclusively on preserving farms. |
|
● |
A board
of trustees composed of active farmers
and farm agents who have a first-hand
understanding of agricultural
operations. |
|
● |
Founded
by interests of organized farm
associations, founding members of New
Jersey’s farmland preservation movement,
full-time farmers,
and agribusiness. |
|
● |
Legally-independent, while affiliated
with the New
Jersey Farm Bureau, which has a history
of 88 years of respect and trust within
New Jersey’s agricultural community. |

|
Background |
|
| New
Jersey Agricultural Lands Trust was
founded in response to a growing need
within the farming community to provide
voluntary, private sector mechanisms
intended to assist landowners in
retaining their land in agriculture and
in passing it onto succeeding
generations. NJALT became a state and
federally registered charitable
organization in September 2007.
